Dr. Shah holds the Barbara & Corbin J. Robertson Jr. Chair in Psychiatry, and is Executive Vice Chair and Professor of Psychiatry, Family and Community Medicine at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston Texas, and Chief of Psychiatry for Ben Taub Hospital/Harris Health System. He is also Chief, Division of Community Psychiatry & Director of Mood Disorder Research Program at Ben Taub Hospital.

Dr. Shah has done numerous media presentations to National and International Radio/TV/Newspapers and has widely presented both nationally and internationally. He is an expert analyst psychiatrist seen on FOX, NBC, CBS, ABC, NPR, PBS, and other channels. He hosts a weekly TV Show “Mind & Body with Dr Asim Shah” also. He has over 130 peer reviewed publications and book chapters. He has received two Fulbright and Jaworski Awards, one for “Teaching and Evaluation” in 2012, and other for “Educational Leadership” in 2014. He further received “Rising Star Clinician Award” from Baylor in 2014. He also was named by Houstonia magazine in their Top Doctors list for Houston in 2013, 2014, 2015 & 2020. He received Castle Connolly’s Top Doctor Award for 2017, 2018, 2019 & 2020. He received Children Mental Health Champion AWARD from Mental Health America in 2018. In august of 2019,  he was appointed to “Texana  Mental Health Centers” Board of Trustees. He is currently Chair for Mental Health America Houston. In 2020 spring, he received the prestigious “Clark Faculty Service Award”, and also “Allies of Women of Excellence Award” from Baylor College of Medicine.

In April 2020 after COVID Pandemic, he was appointed as “Chair Mental Health Task Force Fort Bend county” by Fort Bend County Judge, and was appointed by Mayor Houston to his “Health Equity Response (HER) Task Force” and was made “Co-Chair Public Health Committee” for HER Task Force.
