Dr. Manal Khan is a first-year Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellow at University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Manal was born and raised in Pakistan where she received her medical education. Before joining UCLA, Manal completed her residency training at University of Washington, Seattle. She did her intern year in psychiatry at Duke University.

Manal has held several leadership roles during her residency training. In her third year of residency, she collaborated with faculty to establish the global mental health and cultural psychiatry pathway at her program. She was the resident-lead for the pathway and, also served as the business meeting leader.

Manal was appointed as the Chief Resident of Wellness and Recruitment in her fourth year. Manal graduated from University of Washington with the Outstanding Resident award and had areas of distinction in Advanced Psychotherapy, Perinatal Psychiatry, and Global Mental Health and Cultural Psychiatry pathways. Outside of her program, Manal served as an executive committee member of Washington State Psychiatric Association. Nationally, Manal is an alumni of American Psychiatric Association’s (APA) diversity leadership program.

She also received American Association of Directors of Psychiatry Residency Training’s (AADPRT) Nyapati Rao and Francis Lu International Medical Graduate (IMG) Fellowship Award. Manal’s area of interest in psychiatry are psychotherapy, childhood adversity and trauma, and immigrant mental health. Manal is a published poet and story writer. She is also a mother to a three-year old boy and a Bollywood buff.

One of the main goals of PAPANA is to assist and prepare Psychiatry Residency and Fellowship applicants from Pakistan or of Pakistani descent from any part of the world to successfully enter Psychiatry Residency and Fellowship programs in the United States.
